The California Energy Commission (CEC) announced $55.2 million in new funding to accelerate the installation of publicly available fast chargers across the state. The funding will be available through the California Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Project (CALeVIP). CEC, May 28, 2026.

The California Air Resources Board (CARB) approved amendments to the state’s cap-and-invest program, adopting changes intended to align the program with California’s 2045 climate targets while addressing concerns about energy affordability, refinery closures, and industrial competitiveness. AI and data centers
The California State Senate passed two data center bills that aim to address increasing electricity rates. SB 886 would establish a tariff on data centers to protect ratepayers from the increased costs of supplying data centers; and SB 887 would clarify that data centers are eligible for streamlined environmental review under the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) but are not exempt from CEQA review.
Politics
Large corporations, including energy companies, are spending millions to support Xavier Becerra in California’s gubernatorial primary as the safe option over progressive billionaire Tom Steyer. San Francisco Standard, May 31, 2026.
