On August, 26, 2024, the California Office of Administrative Law approved the regulations that phase-out well stimulation treatments, banning fracking in California.
The rule, which prohibits the Geologic Energy Management Division (CalGEM) from issuing fracking permits for oil and gas wells, takes effect on October 1, 2024.
The amendment to Section 1780, title 14 of the California Code of Regulations states that the regulator “will not approve applications for permits to conduct well stimulation treatments.”
CalGEM released its plan to ban fracking in California and proposed an amendment to California oil and gas regulations in February 2024.
